Sometimes a painting by numbers canvas appears as if it has been slightly and lightly painted already. The manufacturer has done this to make it easier for you to know what color to use, and also help hide the numbers and lines after painting.
If you don’t have a reference print, photograph the canvas on your phone – you can expand the image on-screen, also copy it and if possible scan it. If you don’t have a separate photograph of the finished art then use the box cover.

Paints. Check your paints to make sure they are fluid. Get a wooden coffee stirrer (steal some from a coffee shop :-)) and stir your paints down to the bottom of the pot. Scoop out any paint in the lid and stir that in as well. I suggest adding a drop or 2 of water to the pot to thin the paint slightly. Learn more about Painting By Numbers Paints.
Painting By Numbers Canvas
Painting By Numbers Canvas. If your painting by numbers canvas is on a frame, great. Spray some water on the back and rub it in. This will tighten the canvas as it dries. If your canvas is rolled, unroll it. Roll it the other way, unroll it and let it go flat. If your canvas is folded and if it is a fully natural canvas you can iron it between some cotton sheets to remove the folds. I turn my canvas upside down, spray a little water on the back then steam iron it – that works for me.
